A Message From The Bohio Atabei Grandmothers Council

It has come to our attention that there is confusion within the Taino community as to the roles and responsibilities of the Bohio of Atabei's Grandmothers Council.  In order to clarify this, please let it be known that the Bohio of Atabei Grandmothers Council is not the council of any specific Yukayeke and/or Taino organization.

1-We are a women's circle who work with Taino women from any Taino community and/or individually seeking knowledge about our culture and looking to help their communities.

2-Each Yukayeke has its own Elders and/or grandmothers/elders council as do other Taino organizations that have a council in place.  This may include individual Tainos without an affiliation with a Yukayeke or other organization.

3-Each is responsible for addressing their own issues. However, we are always open to help and/or assist in any way we can when we are asked and/or made aware of such needs.

4-We will not be held responsible for the inaction of any council and/or individual to their issues especially those we are not even aware of.

5-We do not intervene in the internal or external affairs of any Yukayeke, organization and/or individual, unless it is brought to our attention and/or our help is asked for according to the ways of our people.

6-We will not support, condone, and/or entertain any disrespect towards our elders, especially our women and/or our communities.

7-
We will however reserve our right to verbalize any concerns we may have that affect any of our people as a whole in any adverse situation.

Thus we support positive actions/interactionds and try as best as can to help teach and promote the beauty and diversity of our ancestral cultural heritage according to the ways of our people.

Lastly, we also wish to state that we are not responsible for irresponsible, negative or slanderous rhetoric, comments, and/or narratives promoted by others who do not have or ever have had any association and or conversations/communication with our Council. This has been true in the past, the present, and for sure in the future.

If you have questions please write and/or directly contact our council at email bohioatabei@gmail.com
